I am a single parent disabled 63 year old Dad to a 15 year old boy. He has never in his lifetime ever been on holiday with me because of finances. I'm on PIP, DLA high rate, receive child tax credits etc. We exist, just.
My estranged brother has suddenly and unexpectedly offered to pay for a holiday for us. Please how do I stand from the point of view of DWP?

You said you claim PIP and DLA but that’s not possible because you can’t claim both at the same time. Either way, it’s 13 weeks for either benefit.
Its 8 weeks for tax credits.
What other benefits do you claim exactly? Different benefits have different rules.0 -
Poppy 123456 and Woodbine thank you for your replies and apologies for my belated response. I anticipated a notification. Poppy, sorry I am on Eesa and PIP as well as in receipt of CTC and Child Benefit.
I only anticipate a week in France. My concern was do I have to declare such a gift? Is it allowed? My brother has also mentioned my debt and offered to help. How do we stand? Many thanks for all replies.0 -
A weeks holiday in France will not affect any of your benefits and you do not need to tell them your going away.If your brother helps pay your debt then he can pay them directly and then it won't affect your benefits. Even if he gave you the money, it will be classed as capital, not earnings so won't affect your benefits, providing it's less than £6,000.1

PIP is if you’ll be away for more than 13 weeks, as above.bobby123 said:In what circumstances do you need to tell them thenUC is one month and you’d need to notify if you had commitments to fulfil (eg you are a job seeker) as you must still complete these requirements whilst away. There’s nothing stopping you notifying them anyway but in your case it won’t make a difference.0
