For some health conditions they can use their own discretion and continue with your claim even without returning the form. There’s likely a vulnerability marker on your file. We’ve had quite a few members that this has happened to.0

Yes I've had this exact same thing happen to me before. I didn't send the PIP form back at all. A few months later they contacted me to offer me an assessment. The assessment was incredibly long, like 1 hour 45 minutes and then she called back twice on different days to ask more questions. The result was that I got a PIP Award though, Enhanced, without ever filling out the PIP form. They explained I have some kind of vulnerable marker on my files.rubyred71 said:Hi all,

They will only usually do this if the condition you are applying for could affect your ability to complete the form.And they go by what you told them when you called up for the form. As they give you a mini assessment when you call up for the form, they actually have a fair bit of information about you already. They often contact your GP or consultants before your assessmet aswell.
So if you have something like diabetes for example, they'll likely close your case if you don't return the form, but if you have something like depression or learning disability then they may give you an assessment without the form. But this is not a definite and is at their discretion

When you ring to start your claim they don't ask anything about your health conditions. This part of the claim is about personal information such as name, address, do you live in the UK, GP/Doctor details, bank details. Basically, you're filling out the PIP1 form over the phone. You can see that form here.
You said they very often contact GP/Consultants. It's actually the opposite, they very rarely contact anyone for any evidence.
If you're claiming other benefits such as ESA/UC and have been though the work capability assessment they can get information from that but people shouldn't rely on this.

Some people get asked more questions on the Initial call to start the claim and be sent the form. This is often the case with conditions that raise vulnerability markers. For example My daughters call to start her claim lasted over 20 mins and definitely asked a lot of questions about her condition. With regards to writing to the GP I was specifically referring to when you get assessment without filling in the form, and again in my daughters case they had contacted her Consultant as they ha e the diagnostic report that we never sent to them. If you fill in the form, they are much less likely to contact your Doctors. I have beendealing with claims since 2009 so I have seen it done in many different ways and it very much depends on the person and the condition. If you have a condition that doesn't raise any concerns regarding your ability to complete the form you just get asked the basic id questions, and if in these cases you don't return the form the claim will just be closed down and won't profresd any further. Hope that makes my point a bit clearer x
