Hi Chris, my son is 14 and has a chromosome disorder called 4p minus. He has reasonably good speech but cannot say the 'k' sound. It comes out as 't'. SALT have all but given up on him, but being stubborn I feel there must be something I can try to help him. Thank you. S

    Dear susanb,

    Thank you for your question.

I am not familiar with the disorder that your son has and the impact on speech sounds. May I ask whether he replaces the sound in all positions in a word (begnning, middle, end) and if he can produce it in isolation (i.e. not in a word, just by itself)? This process is referred to as 'backing' and i am wondering whether he also does it with "g" to "d"?

    Chris
