Hi. We are thinking of being brave and venturing to France....our son doesn't like holidays, but our teenage daughter wants to escape! Updating our sons passport we have eventually got a photographer to take a reasonable photo, square on, neutral back ground etc etc etc BUT my son has his mouth open showing his teeth. A natural pose for him. But he hates cameras and after 50 rapid shots, its the best of the lot. The passport office have been quite rude saying it's not acceptable. I've explained that it's really the best we will get, but the representative smuggly said "As a mother, I'm sure you know how to get the best out of your child" Afraid I slammed the phone down in disgust. I've emailed and asked for the photo to be reconsidered but not heard back. Anyone else been through this? Help

This is a disgrace, they should accept what you have told them about your son and the difficulties you have getting photos, good luck I hope you get them to see reason

Hi Heather. I'm not a parent myself but I have worked with some families who've had similar experiences. They do normally accept photo's of people with special needs, usually with an accompanying letter that you might need to ask your specialist for. But try the Passport Office's dedicated advice line "If you have a physical or mental disability that means you can't meet the passport photo requirements, contact the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000" open 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday & 9.00 am to 5.30 pm weekends and public holidays: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Applicationinformation/DG_174150 Hoping you find them more helpful than your first experience with them. All the best, Vicki.

Thank you for help. I have spoken at length to the passport advice services. Some are understanding, but one was very rude. Eventually agreed that photo, consultants letter of diagnosis and GP letter stating my son won't close his mouth, they MAY accept the photo. Just high-lights the extra hoops we have to jump through for such a simple request!
