Hi,
just looking for some advice please.
we were awarded dla for our son(he’s 5 yrs old)2 year ago amongst concerns he was autistic.Since then he has been officially diagnosed with the following-
autism
Selective mutism
Chromosome microdeletion 23.1
vitamin d deficiency
We have sent our renewal away and been informed it may take up to 15 weeks.
it’s due to end 29/08/2023 and we have just been informed his carers allowance will end on the same date unless he’s entitled to any benefits. This is our first time having to renew and it’s causing a lot of worry and anxiety in the family.Wehave supplies them with letters from his diagnosis and the genetics lab and all his speech therapy/calms/sips and his send from his school.
We are so worried it gets stopped despite everything we have sent them
any advice?
thanks

I don’t think anyone can predict what the decision will be. I do know that there are backlogs with DLA decisions.

Once a decision is made you will be sent the decision letter. Hopefully you’re not waiting too much longer.

Give DLA a ring a week before the claim is supposed to end, I have seen them make ‘urgent’ decisions for outstanding claims at this point but not guaranteed and very few people post on here about DLA claims so I can’t check that’s correct right now.

It’s 18 weeks at the moment for decisions too, sometimes longer.

Anecdotally from other claimants and speaking to a DLA decision maker recently, it's my understanding that they're leaving renewals until just before the renewal date so you might not hear until just before the end date. As @bg844 mentions, if you've not heard a week before, give DLA a call. Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer @Houdini. :)
