Chiarieds, thank you I am ok. A little stressed though I recieved a backdated lump sum which was an underpayment for my esa. It says on the letter this amount will be disregarded as savings for the length of my claim which is another 4 years. Do you know however, if I have to declare it to the fairer charging unit in relation to my care contribution. I have always believed not but someone from dwp saysi should? Why is everything so complicated🤔0

Hello @hillsong
Welcome to the community!Glad to hear you were awarded, but understand your frustrations. It is all so complicated! Citizen's Advice has a page on ESA and Savings you may find useful to read

Yes, that's for ESA purposes. Not sure the purpose of the contribution you have to make towards the cost of the care you receive.

It was a lump sum of money ‘owed’ and it says it won’t be taken into account as my savings. So are you saying I have to declare it and use the money I was owed to pay for my ‘care’?0

Yes, it's not counted as savings for your benefits. It's completely different for anything else such as the care you receive and yes you will need to declare this to your local Authority.
