Usually it’s in your bank 3-5 working days from when payment was made.

Thank you and will the backdated money be given automatically or do I have to notify them about it

    Hi,

My brother receives carers allowance for me but what Universal Credit doesn't tell you about is a benefit called carers element which is £185 a month. Speak to an advisor to get this in place if you haven't already done so.

It's automatically paid. Are you claiming any other benefits such as Universal Credit or any of the legacy benefits such as ESA/JSA or Income Support?

    Sometimes but not always.

Carers element is part of Universal Credit and not everyone claims this. As it's a means tested benefit not everyone will qualify and it will depend on a persons circumstances. If someone claims carers allowance as well as UC there's no financial gain because it's just deducted in full.

There are some advantages to claim it though, such as class 1 NI credits and weekly payments. Where as UC is class 3 NI credits and monthly payments.
