No PIP backdated pay?

writing on behalf of my wife,
She has been in receipt of DLA low rate care, over the years her health has got worse, she successfully applied for PIP, she was awarded enhanced rate for both care and mobility, they haven't backdated the claim, instead they start payments next month, why is this? shouldn't the back payment go back to when she put in her claim less the low rate DLA she has received?

This is correct. There's no money owed if the PIP award is higher than the DLA award. In the same way that you wouldn't owe them any money if the PIP award was lower than the DLA award. Unfortunately, it's the law that's been in place since PIP was introduced in 2013.It's perfectly normal for the first PIP payment to be about 7 weeks after the decision was made.0
