Is soup a drink?

From the team that brought you the Great Potato Debate comes another important question that plagues us all.
I asked this in the Ask Anything game this morning, but it definitely requires some further exploration.
What is soup? Are chunks an important factor? If a soup is a smooth liquid meal, does this mean smoothies are soups? Are milkshakes soup? We have so many questions.
So let us know...

It depends (please specify)I think the amount of solids and the viscosity play a very important role in this.
But also if chunks are a sign of it being a soup, is bubble tea a soup?0 -
Oh this is a hard question...
I haven't used my vote yet as I don't know and I think it's a big responsibility and want to get it right!
I suppose it is served a meal and the other drinks you mention are not served as meals, though some people do use special milkshakes instead of meals I guess...2 -
It depends (please specify)I think it depends on the how the user ingests it.
Slurp straight from the cup/bowl - drink.
Lift to mouth with spoon - meal.
Though personally the texture puts me right off anything like that...even reading the OP I was on the cusp!0 -
It depends (please specify)If it's thin like a consommé, beef broth etc., then I count it as a drink.Thick & velvety or with chunks, I count it as a soup.0

Soup is not a drink, what are you on about? It is a tricky one but I voted meal when anyone had been ill my nan always recommend chicken soup with the advice "oh but you have to eat something".
Even today if I've been unwell and off my food I will have soup (although not always chicken soup) sometimes in a mug or if I feel like some bread with it in a bowl. I guess back then they thought it was it lighter on the stomach.

No, smoothies are smoothies
Are milkshakes soup?
No, milkshakes are milkshakes
Ps can I change my vote or have I made a terrible mistake (again)?

It depends (please specify)Alas @whatthe we cannot mess with polls, that's beyond our power. You'll have to live with your decision now.1

Soup is not a drink, what are you on about?I definitely don't think it's a drink because we class yogurt as a food but in the same way it's the same as soup0
