I’m 25 and on uc/pip/lcwra and want to get a degree and not long found out about distance learning which sounds perfect for my situation and would be great for a cv as I’m stuck in doors atm, my question is do I speak to universal credit first or sign up for the university and then speak to uc, need to also find out how to pay tuition or if it’s paid for etc.

I do not advise you to speak to UC for any advice regarding this. Try the disabled students helpline. https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/disabled-students-helpline0

I’ve seen in a different post that a maintenance loans has an effect on your uc, what effect is it? Is it just the same effect as a budgeting loan?0

If there’s a maintenance loan available to you then it will affect your UC, even if you decide not to take that loan. A student loan to pay for fees will not affect your UC.Totally different to a budgeting advance. The disabled student helpline will give you all the advice you need, please do contact them.0
