Hi....I'll try and keep this short. After being on my own for 14 years I met someone 2 years ago. We'd like to move in together but I simply can't afford to lose all my benefits. How on earth do I sort through it? Thanks x

    PIP isn’t affected because it’s not means tested. 

    Are you claiming any other benefits? If so which ones? 

    Does your partner work? or claim benefits? If so which ones?

    Hi...thanks. I get Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support. My partner retires next April.

    I’m assuming you also claim your state pension as well?

    If you live together before they reach state pension age then your pension credit will end because you are known as a mixed aged couple. Whether there’s any entitlement to Universal Credit will depend on your joint circumstances. 

    Once they reach state pension age whether there’s any entitlement to pension credit will depend on your joint circumstances.

    Your council tax reduction may also be affected but as all local authorities have their own rules then I’m afraid I can advise on that. You will also lose your 25% single person discount. 

    For housing benefit then it will depend on your joint circumstances.
     
    Is your partner working or claiming benefits? You didn’t answer that question.

    Working at the moment,  but wouldn't change anything until then anyway.
