Initially my son was getting middle rate DLA so he got lower rate disability element of UC  since January 2021 . Then in January 2022 he was awarded the higher rate care so should have been entitled to the higher disability element of UC. I have only just found out that he should have been receiving the higher amount from UC so today I changed my circumstances to inform them . I also spoke to a call handler who said that they will back date to when my son started receiving the higher rate DLA but that would be approximately 7k in badk dated pay. Will they really back date the best part of 2 years mis payments? If they do then it’s incredible because we are about to lose our house as mortgage gone up so much . Has anyone got any advice ? Thank you

Yes, it should be backdated to the assessment period in which the changes took place. Once a decision is made you'll receive a letter on your journal. Money owed will paid separately to your usual monthly money.

They will also need to recalculate your past statements to work out how much you've already received against what you should have received and you'll receive the difference between the two. The new statements will replace the existing ones so you may want to take copies of them now.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Thank you.  I hope you are right and I will get the backdated pay. It seems too good to be true but fingers crossed.
