advice needed for suspected autism

hi, i believe my son is on the autism spectrum due to various traits that he shows, for 3 years we have tried to get a diagnosis but keep being declined to be seen, we have tried Liase, Early help, GP etc etc and are getting nowhere. could anyone give me some help on where to go next please

    If your GP has refused to refer you then I would suggest going for a second opinion.

    The National Autistic Society has a guide for the diagnosis process. Have you read through it already? If not I think it should be helpful. Hopefully you will be able to get your son assessed :)

    Have you asked your GP son to refer your son to either the Adult Neurodevelopmental Team if over 18 or to the Community Neurodevelopmental team if under 18, in my area it is the NDS team who accept referrals from either GP, you can also ask to be referred to SALT/OT if they then suspect after assessment that your son has ASD they can also refer to the appropriate team in your area.  Be mindful though the waiting list for either an ASD/ADHD diagnosis is in excess of 4/5 years (in my area it is) and as the wait is so long they are commissioning private companies to assess and diagnosis then the report gets sent to NHS.  Depending on your finanacial situation you can also self fund an ASD diagnois but you would have to ensure they follow NICE guidelines and are using the correct criteria.  Hope that helps if your son has an EHCP I think the school can also make a referral.

    If the gp is negligent perhaps have your son complete some questionnaires to prove he is possibly on the spectrum?
