Does resigning from employment affect esa?

Good morning,
I had my capability for work assessment on Tuesday, the assessor said she was going to put in her report that my issues are severe and she doesn't feel I'm able to prepare for work in any capacity, so I'm really hoping I am put in the support group.
I have been signed off work since early June and feel incredibly guilty that I'm letting the school down. I know I am not going to be able to return, have been honest with them regarding this and have been secretly hoping they just dismiss me. I would resign, but am concerned that this may affect my claim for esa in some way. If I were to voluntarily leave my job, would this look bad to the dwp? I'm unsure as to what to do for the best.
