Hi Everyone
i wonder if anyone could help me.
I'm registered blind and have other disabilities. I was awarded full Pip fire care and mobility as well as LCWRA.
I am in the waiting list for social housing. It’s taken me a year to get them to agree that I need level access shower. I’ve been told I need a second room for a cater because one of my chronic illnesses can be fatal if not managed correctly.

I’ve asked the council and they say I need medical proof and confirmation from the DWP that they will pay for a second bedroom.
I’ve spent two years jumping through hoops to be awarded disability benefits. How is that not proof enough?
Does anyone have any experiences of second bedrooms in social housing please? For example who do I ask who will fund it?
rhank you!

LCWRA is part of Universal Credit and rent will be paid in with this known as housing element. You would only claim housing benefit if living in either supported or temporary housing. It is possible to claim an extra bedroom for a carer when claiming PIP, if overnight care is needed in a regular basis. It will be down to a decision maker to decide if this is warded.
The only issue is that they won’t be able to make a decision before the change actually happens.0
