PIP thinks I am 'cured' after 18 years

After being disabled for 18 years and in receipt of DLA higher mobility award I have now been 'cured' and told I CAN walk by the new PIP. And all without anyone examining my spine! Amazing how they know more than doctors and specialists isn't It?

Oh dear @madmags66 are you going to appeal the process?
Welcome to the community, have a look around or use the search button above and you will find lots of people's experiences of DLA and PIP.Scope

I am going to appeal but need help. I had to do the reconsideration on my own as it's impossible to get hold of CAB in this area (Partington). Looked on Scope and it tells me there is nothing within 10 miles. I no longer have a car and the bus stop is too far for me to walk. Can't get an appointment with my doctor for over 31 days. Everything stacked against me.

The main point to remember is that it's not the medical condition itself that DWP look at, it's how it affects your daily ability to wash, dress, prepare food, eat, and a few other activities, plus how you are able to walk outside. Take a look at Scope's, CAB's and Disability Rights' website sections on PIP. And pay particular attention to the descriptors. State which descriptor in each section you think applies to you and why. And don't overestimate your ability to do things. The descriptors concerned have to apply for at least 50% of the time, i.e. at least four days a week.
The assessor probably assessed your walking INDOORS whereas they should have assessed it OUTDOORS, using pavements and kerbs. The DWP's own PIP Handbook states this. So you have grounds for appeal here.

@madmags66 it appears that the Partington CAB is permenently closed, I think your nearest branch is now Trafford.
The details are here:20 Stamford New Road,Altrincham, Greater Manchester, WA14 1EJ0844 499 4103http://www.traffordcab.org.uk/
Alternatively, you could call the Scope helpline on 0808 800 3333 or email them on helpline@scope.org.ukScope

My friends just transferred from DLA to pip and lost everything, there was no mention in her letter from pip of her severe osteoarthritis, or her need for both knee replacements. I've been through the same thing so was able to advise on her mandatory reconsideration, but don't hold out much hope for her. I was found fit for work on every pip assessment, it was a DWP reconsideration that finally saw sense and put me in supported and I got mobility lower rate, but only after 2years of hell.
