Refused Motability

The word suggest means it is just a suggestion and I'm not telling anyone what to do.
I have been through a similar experience and when I went through it I was advised to address the speeding issue so that is why I replied to try to help because this is quite important.
I did not take my time to reply with the intention of needing to explain myself to you and your unfair accusations.
Kindly don't try to continue this any further with me because I will not respond to you again.
I apologise to the original poster if any offence was caused as I just tried to help.0 -

Her son was having a seizure and from experience she was probably extremely stressed and worried and so was going a couple of miles over the limit to get to him. Some comments on here are not helpful atall and seem quite judgemental. She doesn't need to be told to address it I'm sure she is doing that already.
The original poster has not even responded to my comment yet.
For some reason you seem offended on behalf of the original poster?
Kindly do not assume the original poster will be offended because then it's you that is being judgemental.
Although, speed limits are there for a reason...0 -

I think there is more than 1 person replying on the sammywild profile or else sammywild is referring to herself in the third person?

In my own experience I needed to address the issue instead of just asking for leniency and I thought that was fair enough.

Hi guys, I am the person who was formerly 'rayoflight' on this site and was responding to honestjons ( for the record VERY judgemental comment- fair enough to be honest, but cushion it with compassion and we'll all get much further on the road to happiness).... Yep, my real name, initials stand for ' every child/citizen matter, and I get called Ed which also stands for Every Disabled Child/Citizen Matter- we ALL do!) I was responding but my son managed to drop my phone, it broke and I've had to get a replacement... For the record, I have driven over 70,000 miles in the last 2.5 years -more so than the majority of motability customers - into unchartered territories where 'speed traps' lurk ( they are called 'speed traps' for a reason!). I haven't had one 3rd party claim against me in 30+ years of driving, so honestjon, I am not and have never have been a danger to anyone on the roads- you stand corrected. What you perhaps do not realise is that there is a 'green agenda' where there is a vision to make 15 minute cities where people will only be getting taxis and public transport - and according to a magistrate friend of mine, a lot of these 'speed traps' ( called so for a reason- there to trap you/ catch you out) they are 'income generation' for councils - and I have absolute proof of this. Motorways are not 70mph any more - they can be 60, 50, 40, 30 and even 20 mph. I have first hand experience of this- One night driving from Manchester to Birmingham - and for no apparent reason ( not a road worker in sight- as is the case 90-95%of the time,) the speeds went 60, 50, 40, 30 mph going through Manchester - the same pattern again - 60,50,40,30 going through Stoke and again through Staffordshire - I thought ' they're all in on this- all the local councils' ( as a way of 'income generation' ) - I share this with a friend who said the same pattern happened for him when driving thru Leeds... But this is the cherry on the cake- driving up from Birmingham in the small hours of sun 19 sept and the motorway is set at 20 mph - ( I'm obeying the speed limit because my life is dependent on this car , but see several people - obviously confused by this, thinking the variable speed limit must be broken and incorrect, getting flashed at... Lo and behold- what news do I hear on the Monday morning? That Birmingham City Council had gone bankrupt over the weekend.... so what better way to make money than to set the speed limits to 20mph and make a few million? I ask you to have a global eye on what is REALLY going on behind the scenes... Now in Holland, speed restrictions are lifted at night when the roads are quiet. In Germany on the autobahn ( motorway) there ARE no speed limits - but if you go into anyone,EVERYTHING is on your insurance- from emergency services, hospital treatments etc. which, unlike this country where it is treated like a game - people slowing down when they see a speed camera then speeding up again when they are out of sight, in Germany, they have more careful conscious and empowered drivers, who know their own limits without causing harm to others. Furthermore, everyone there has to resit their driving test every 5 years , so they keep abreast of current changes in legislation etc- a far better model of education and income generation than the sneaky way in which it is carried out in this country. I used my own personal examples of occasions where I have been caught out to illustrate.... First time driving in a non- residential area of wide open fields that has always been a 40mph area - I ask my elderly mother to mind my disabled son while I pop to the shops ( as it would take 3 times as long with him)Whilst driving along a traditional 40mph zone- the 'dinner plates' still say that, the initial large one has been taken down and been replaced with a picture of a speed camera. There is nothing explicit to indicate that this section is now 30mph- we are meant to deduce that it is. I get a call from my mother to say ' return quicky as son is having an epileptic fit - in my panic I go 1mile over getting a speed awareness course and have to pay £100 and have the points on DVLA website for the next 4 years - over 1000 days - rather punitive / harsh don't you think? Motability consider this to be a 'minot offence' , whereas 'DirectLine' insurers for Motability ) call it a 'conviction' - Now ask AI 'chat GPT' to define the difference between a 'minor offence' and a 'conviction' and you will clearly see a gulf of difference between these two words. Now these 3 points are 'spent' ( ie served ) in 8 days time, and the Court of Law has granted me 'Mitigating Circumstances - Exceptional Hardship' but direct line are above the law ( don't you know) and say that I cannot drive until 4 years - March 19th 2025 and tell me this on Tues 23 Jan that I can no longer drive. The following day, we attempt public transport- my son cannot cope- he had the biggest meltdown on public transport I have ever seen him have, alights the bus by the East Lancashire Road ( UK's first national highway) and the police find him on a motorway! This could have been WAY more dangerous - resulting in potential injury or death to not only my son but to others on the motorway, (don't you think?) than driving 1 mile over in a non- residential area where the signs have been ( deliberately ) unclear ( for 'income generation' ' purposes). Please consider individual circumstances before casting a sweeping judgement about 'dangerous driving' . It is NOT a case of 'one size fits all' and there are always exceptions to the rules...Even the police said that I should not be penalised by an insurance company for a decision in court that ruled in my favour... But, insurance companies are about profit, not people ....The second time I got caught out was where the motorway turns into the Welsh Highway and according to a traffic solicitor, they get everyone there with unclear signage. Third time, 12.17am Sunday night/Monday morning, not a soul on the road. First time on a 'smart motorway' ( yes, VERY smart - a nice ' little earner' for some fat cat - and while I'm at it, you can bet your bottom dollar that all the money going into these 'clean air zones' are NOT going back into 'clean air' but into some fat cat's pocket - there's going to be a civil revolution, let me tell yah- with the 'Ninja's already ripping these signs down- Poor people have had enough of the super rich takin the p**s) yep, 1st time on a smart motorway in the wee hours and overhead gantry has 50 above slow lane and diagonal arrows indicating to get into middle and fast lane- I'm a bit confused by this so am slowing down to 65 - actually under the national speed limit, but get a charge. I research 'smart motorways' and see that variable speeds are in place to control traffic flow and adjust when traffic becomes heavy, and take it up with National Highways ( then called Highways England) as to why this was the case on empty motorways- they investigate and say it is a 'police decision' and there was motorway works....Point of fact, the motorway works were MUCH further up the road, but hey ho, another 3 points and £100 down. Final time, in a place where I was slowing down to services -68mph at 2.30am on empty roads as needed to relieve myself ( I have bowel and bladder problems after having a double prolapse where my insides came out and I nearly died post op- not that you honestjon would have any understanding of giving birth, ) now if I'd been Sir Alex Ferguson with enough money to burn, I also would have employed a top barrister and been freed of this week deliberate income generation moneyspinner, but no, it goes to court and I am legally allowed to drive. So why is it that insurance companies can operate above the law and get away with it? The local MP was in my corner with this but received a letter from insurance which contained 8 erroneous statements and once the ombudsman was involved, the MP could not help out any further....and even the ombudsman said they were not in a position to tell insurance company what to do... So my final shot is to also write a final plea to its head in the hope that this decision can be overturned - otherwise move to the US where they are a lot more reasonable -1 point for going marginally over ( as in my case, whilst also causing no harm/danger to anyone, for the record) up to 18 points per year before they are removed annually- I think that that 4 minor offences in 4 years ( when I have covered between 100-150,000 miles during that time) isn't bad going at all- we are all human and make honest mistakes, but let he who is perfect ( honestjon?) cast the first stone....0

Im pleased to have seen this thread ( not pleased that people have had problems though) I am hoping to get enhanced mobility when my assessment is finally done and often think should I buy my own car outright or get a mobility one. But reading this and the way they are now pushing 20mph everywhere more and more people will be done for speeding (20ph is very hard to do on some roads ) that I will buy my own car and not have to worry about any of the rules mobility has (that only reading this thread made it known to me ) Or if I lose my award and lose my car etc
I hope those who are affected get things sorted.0 -

For me the scheme is worth its weight in gold and I don't know what I would do without it. I'm on my 3rd car in that time.
Yes, there's always going to be some worry about whether you lose the mobility award but for me it's worth that risk and I'm the sort of person that will only worry if something happens.
Of course it's entirely your decision, some think it's worth it and others don't. The peace of mind that comes with worry and trouble free motoring far out ways anything else for me.1 -
Hi I was just wondering if anyone could help me with the head of insurances email for direct line? I’ve been refused to get another vehicle after having a crash. I tried to appeal and they rejected it and I’m struggling to get on with life without a car as I have multiple sclerosis. Please and thanks for any help.0

I am in the same situation, what do you advise? Thank you

Depending on the age of the driver - I have heard of people being charged as much as £5k for motor insurance with less than 12 points on a licence - so the sky's the limit !!
Does Motability have the option of using black box / telematics to reduce car insurance costs ?
Driving with 12 points is always going to be hurrendously expensive due to the risk.

No, they do not.

Some of that is not strictly true
Driving Licences - for example last for 15 years in Germany - not 5 years
Speed limits DO still apply on roughly 50% of Autobahns and if you do get caught speeding on restricted roads/autobahns - you can expect the book to be well and truly thrown at you (3% tolerance compared to 10% in UK).
And before you ask - I have a blemish free 42 year driving record !

It would be impossible for anyone to predict what they decide.
