No, I haven't lost the plot (yet). Has anyone else heard of this fish doorbell?
The basic story is that there's a boat lock in Utrecht in the Netherlands that is shut in Spring. The fish in the water like to swim about at this time to find mates and lay their eggs, but they can't get through unless the lock is opened. They've also found that if they wait for someone to manually open the lock for the fishy visitors once a day, predators will hang about and pick off all the fish before they're let through.
So the solution was to live stream the lock and have anyone watching on the internet press the doorbell if they see any fish. If you press the fish doorbell it takes a picture and alerts the person controlling the lock. If they see enough fish there and get enough alerts they open it up to let them go about their fishy business.

I have to say I am yet to see a fish, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. Fin-tastic stuff
What do you think? Have you heard of this before?

It's a good idea tho for the fish and a good play on words

Cheers for putting that up, @Rosie_Scope, what a great idea!Had a friend, sadly departed, that designed a camera feeding system for salmon fish farms. Not everybody could access them though, although, I s'pose the salmon would have been a lot bigger if the had.

@JessieJ Sounds great! Those would be some very well fed salmon if your friend had made it public!
There are quite a few live streams of animals and birds around at the moment, maybe I'll make a list at some point

Of course!
The one I use is here but as the bears are all out of hibernation, you may not see much. But it does link to their youtube channel, so you can watch the highlights. Or check on the eagles nest cams and other cool things.Albus (he/him)

They are, @Albus_Scope, I love it when they clean along the shallow 'beach' & the pods swimming through. Also, seeing the humpbacks glide through too, a sight I would love to witness in the flesh.

There is a lot of interesting engineering done to help fish co-exist with the way we use waterways. In the past we wouldn't think about fish when we built dams, and that was to their and our detriment.
If anyone is interested in learning a little about what goes into ensuring fish can traverse a dam I found this youtube video very eye opening!They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with
