Hi my names Adam wondering on advise about pip claims

I started my claim on the 30Th of March for severe knee and back and also 4 severe mental health and mental disorders. I have just received a text saying We have not yet made a decision on your PIP claim. We will write to you when we have made a decision. You only need to contact us if your circumstances change. It has not been over a year and had lots of phone calls to decision makers about this to be told they are extremely busy.

Hi @adamnoe89 - & welcome to the community. Unfortunately it's true, PIP claims are taking some time, especially reviews, so all you can do is wait. The text you received is just a standard one which many receive.

Hi thanks and this is a new claim my partner applied 6 months ago and got allowed within 2 months for depression I’m still battling a year later to see if they have mad a decision to allow or deny I was told 8 week after my appointment last year in April and it is now been 53 weeks🤦🏼♂️0

That doesn't sound right, claims aren't taking that long at the moment, I've read on this site from people who have applied and got a decision within 3 months from start to finish. Some good news though is that they backdated so if successful you'll get a big payday. I would phone them up and insist on talking to somebody (well actually I personally wouldn't as anxiety wouldn't let me be that direct) but it's what I would want to do. Good luck 😊1

That's a very long time to wait for a new claim. If you already have a PIP award and this was a review, a year is fairly normal at the moment. New claims shouldn't take longer than about 4-6 months.

As other's have said, that seems like a very, very long time. Contacting your MP, like Poppy mentions, can sometimes poke the DWP into action. I hope you have an MP who is the kind to help out their constituents.

I contacted my MP and got a update it turned out they lost my assessments but been told I should have a decision within the week so fingers crossed thanks for the reply1

Not sure how they can give you a decision when they say that they have lost your assessment as they obviously wouldn’t have anything to assess you from or make a decision against.

no biggie, just confuses people replying…going by the timeline and the advice to contact MP this would have had to all be done on Frid 5th as DWP not open weekend….and you replied to the postee on Sat 6th advising contact MP….0 -
Only admin can edit a comment the following day. Even those members with "disability game changer" on their account only have 59 minutes to edit their comment. After that only admin can do this.Bydand said:

I do agree that it seems rather quick to have had a response from an MP on the weekend. DWP staff do sometimes work Saturdays, especially when there's backlogs and there's plenty of those.0 -

It’s a mystery then.

Always very measured responses and to the point….It is always enjoyable to read your responses and I know that I have learnt a lot from you that I was previously unaware of, everyday is a school day!

You initially applied for PIP in March 2023.You had appointment in April 2023 and was told that you should hear something within an 8 week period.
You never heard anything back and have subsequently phoned or contacted them several times to be told they are busy or something similar.
Getting nowhere, You contacted you MP at the start of this week (beginning of April 2024) and was told they could not find your assessment.
You subsequently state that you received a txt message on Frid stating that they had received the report based on your assessment but that they had not made a decision yet and that this could take 8 weeks……..Are you saying this txt was on the Friday just past, ie the 5th of April 2024?, because I read your screenshot as having received two txts pretty much one after the other on Frid 22nd March 2024 as the last message is from the same date, just 12 mins later…..If the message was from the 5 th March it would give that date and time as the other txt messages have.
soooo..from my perspective, the situation as it stands currently is that after a lengthy wait you finally received a txt message on Frid 22nd March 2024 stating that they had received your assessment report but that they had not made a decision yet, and that this could take 8 weeks to do.
Are you asking whether you will get a decision within this 8 week timescale?0 -

The text message was sent on the 22nd match saying they received it after nearly a year since my appointment and the last text about not yet making a decision was send Friday 5th April

Well, that’s some wait you’ve had, hopefully light at the end of the tunnel for you shortly. I have to agree that is some lengthy wait to have to wait for your claim, wishing you are successful as the bright side is you'll have a massive backpayment if your claim is successful.Wishing you all the best.0
