Can I be tested for ASD?

My son was diagnosed A.S. as a teenager following issues adapting to Secondary school. Since his Mom passed away we have become much closer and I came to wonder about my own difficulties relating to others. I raised it with my GP and was told categorically that I could not be tested.
Any thoughts or advice would be great thanks.

Sorry I can't be much help... But so pleased you and your son have grown close despite some hard circumstances. Just wanted to say hi!

Thanks mossycow, nice to hear from you.

Hi, @TallPaul
Your GP is perhaps confused with what you're asking - no, there isn't a black and white 'test' to prove whether or not you have ASD, but you can certainly ask to be assessed for it!
Try getting in touch with the National Autistic Society and finding an autism support group in your area - they'll have information for adults in your situation and will be able to point you in the right direction even if they can't do much themselves. -
Many thanks for your kind interest Violet - will get in touch with NAS.

Hi @TallPaul were the NAS helpful? How are you doing?

Hi, sorry for absence - convinced myself a diagnosis would not change anything and have kept very busy with work and caring responsibilities.
I really struggled over recent months and feel unable to deal with the issues facing me. Withdrawal and rejection of the few people in my life is increasingly hard to temper.
Will get in touch with NAS.
Thank you.
