Pip backpay and dwp debt

I had the assessment letter saying what I'll get and when.
I phoned today about the backpay and they said that it was going to be sent to debt management. I owe them roughly £500.
I'm just wondering when I can expect the payment as struggling alot recently.
When I spoke to dwp debt management they said the payment could take upto 8 weeks.
Also since when did they start taking money from backpay to settle debts seems a harsh practice for people who have been waiting a long time without the support.

it was same with me I owed a overpayment.and they sent it to debt management.i rang them and they told me.that they will sign it off .and how much I will get back.so you will get the balance back .and was informed .it goes to finance department.and gets sent to your bank account.so I would give them a call.and hopefully they will sort while your in the phone to them.

I tried doing that they don't me nothing come through plus I don't owe them anything so the money should come straight to me

I have just experienced the same thing .I think it's discusting as pip is ment to be for disabled people and they try to take money from you to pay of a dept what's nothing to do with pip .and you already have a payment plan in place .

Hi,
I’m in the same situation my anxiety is sky high atm. Got a call yesterday from the special team that deals with the new law and they said I was owed a little over 10k I thought it was a scam at first to be honest but he asked if I am able to manage lump sum and informed me it would be in my bank in a few days. Keep reading horror stories about debt management taking a lot and sometimes all of it for debts. I am paying back tax credit debts from so many years ago I can’t even be sure I owe but nevertheless I’m paying out of my UC will they still flag the money and take it? Surely they would tell me it’s going to be in my bank knowing there is a chance it could be taken by debt management right? I cried after the phone call overwhelmed and obviously so happy but now just terrified not knowing if I’ll even get it now :/ did you receive the full amount of the money they owed?

when you called them (debt management) did they take a lot? I think it’s disgusting too they shouldn’t ring people like I have mental health problems and now have my hopes up that I will get what they said but not sure now so I’m gonna be a nervous wreck until I know :(

Can you tell me what happened with your case? Did they end up taking it? Mine is from the new law 2016 and the guy didn’t mention anything about going to finance dept or possibility of debt management taking any of it but after reading horror stories I’m obviously worried x
