What tips do you give to a 29 year old man who has been unemployed since leaving college at 17 and throughout this time his local jobcentre have been absolutely useless!!!

Hi Kimberly,
Welcome to the community. Sorry to hear that the job centre hasn't been helpful.
Have you been in touch with any disability employment specialists for your area?
Scope has some:

Here are some other organisations:

And support and training providers:

My past experience of a job centre has been that advisors are not proactive in assisting folk. They simply tick off boxes which ensures their own employment rather than mine. Afterall why on earth would they want to help the unemployed find work? It simply means they will eventually be out of a job! Makes sense to me.
Times have now changed and hopefully so have the advisors!
-
@kimberlywalsh - It is tragic to read your statement. Hopefully you will receive better advice and assistance. In the past I have perceived that the advisors have not been all that well informed enough to give appropriate advice. However I do perceive that this is now changing.

Hi @mumof3boys I happen to notice your recommendation of Enham Trust. Have they managed to help you get work? I saw one of their advisors but walked away feeling that I was a lost cause!
-
Thankyou for your advice people, which is more than we've had during the past ten years! How sad is that?? Why on earth the job centre cant be just as helpful is beyond me!!! And the Government talks about getting more people off benefits!! My son has worked for the Royal Mail at their sorting office as a Xmas casual worker, for the last 8 years, they have treated him very well, but have never offered him any work after the contract has ended! So he can work and will work, and yet still the job centre turn a blind eye!!!!
-
I will I will certainly be looking at your links and it's very heartwarming to be able to communicate with other people in similar situations, and get professional advice at the same time! This is a journey I have been on for a very long time, in particular being piggy in the middle with ongoing sagas at home revolving around my son!!!

@mumof3boys - I saw evenbreak and they look good. Will give them a try. Thank you for the recommendation

Hi @kimberlywalsh - I wrote something earlier which sums up another perception of mine about the Job Centre advisors. I think it clears up a lot of mystification about a non-delivery to jobseekers. Take a look ..........

I also worked at Royal Mail for 18 months as a temp in two separate roles and yet they did not offer me anything permanent despite them making all the right noises and I made all the right moves. However they are not the only organisation/company to do this as I also had a lot of this in the banking sector. At this time I was not disabled/incapacitated. -
Evenbreak are useless tried with postcode and no jobs then tried Bridgend (Wales) and all jobs that popped up was in London, scope should stop promoting evenbreak does not help disabled at all
-
I just searched for 'Bridgend' on Evenbreak and I saw a few ones in Wales pop up @Penybont. You can see the results here. Does that help at all?
