CAB says
"ask if you can make an audio recording of the assessment - you must ask to do this before your assessment and ask the centre about the rules for using recording equipment"Scope

Hello @charmed ,
It's not illegal but why would you want to ?
Only the computer form goes to the DWP and if you search on this forum you'll find that they often take very little notice of it in forming their opinions anyway.
If the contractor found out and returned your case to the DWP where would you be then?

I was asking because on another forum someone said they recorded in secret audio and it went to tribunal and they were able to produce this as different accounts of f2f, the did win and got their assessment. I didnt think you could but they said they did. Thats why i was asking

Well if it has gone to Tribunal then there is nothing to lose at that point.
They do allow recording you know ?
They require a special dual media machine though.
Secret with potential risks or openly with special kit. The choice is yours.

If you are caught recording the assessment without permission they could end the assessment and close your claim, so it's a big risk.
There's more on Capita's site: http://www.capita-pip.co.uk/en/assessment-process.html

As @Markmywords says - you need special recording equipment. It's a shame it's not easier to hire - I imagine lots of people would like to record their assessment.
