I'm super fortunate as my son and his girlfriend are going to spend the evening with me and the dog watching the final Saturday. They'll be providing all the naughty snacks food and beverages so it's going to be a bit of a party 🥳 .

Woohoo, sounds great @onedayatatime! Are you rooting for anyone in particular? Or just watching along for the fun of it?

I can't wait for eurovision tomorrow, I watch it every year but only ever watch the finals. I just love it when they get to the points bit afterwards and seeing who was voted for. I do remember them taking hours to do them when I was a kid though, its more speedier now.

I've absolutely no idea who's who!!  @Rosie_Scope But on the night I always cheer for the most outlandish performance!

That's a good way to do it @onedayatatime! I recommend Finland as a start ;)

I love that bit too @rubin16, I always find it interesting who each country picks to give out their votes as well, they make me chuckle. People who seem to be the Moldovan celebrity equivalent of someone like Amanda Holden or Alison Hammond. And there's always a couple of them who feel the need to sing the results :D

I don’t watch it but my support worker (who is part of the gender different/sexuality different community herself) made a joke that she was looking at going to a group aimed toward gay people and inevitably they decided to watch Eurovision :D

I love when people don’t take themselves too seriously and really appreciated the willingness to crack a politically incorrect joke

I want to say I am part of the LGBTQIA+ (I’m not sure if any more letters have been added in the few days since I last checked) community before anyone has a go at me :D

I always find the floor displays quite amazing!
Dread to think how much it costs to run all the lights etc though

I have zero knowledge of the Eurovision contest but why is it lucky that Switzerland has won??

I will say this result pleases me because Switzerland seems a nice place and I like Swiss watches and chocolate and cheese ..... :D

The public vote spoke absolute volumes about each singer.

Very happy that Eden was in the top 5 her performance was absolutely superb.

I hope all the singers feel proud of what they accomplished.

Just a reminder for everyone that it's important we stay civil and supportive of each other as per the house rules. With things like this where political stuff is going on in the background, just be mindful of others when you're responding as political factors can be a very sensitive issue and can cause upset. Sometimes it's better to step away and let others enjoy the discussion in a positive way.

I had a good feeling that Switzerland might win, so I was pleased with the results. Can't believe Nemo broke the trophy right after receiving it, though!

And poor Finland and their egg made of jeans never stood a chance :D

Sorry it seems that I maybe missed some drama as I just popped in after the admin presumably had a tidy up

But I wanted to ask, putting aside ones position on global politics, I thought Eurovision was not meant to be a political event and just a bit of fun??

I may be wrong as like I said earlier I don't know anything about the competition, maybe it is in fact a political event

Finland was quite a cheeky entry this year(Pun intended) but it looked like they were having a lot of fun.

@66Mustang, it's supposed to be a largely non-political event and there's a lot of emphasis on people being inclusive and just celebrating music, but sometimes politics does creep in to the voting and organisation of the event in general. For example, some people might say that Ukraine won in 2022 simply because the other countries thought they needed a morale boost due to the war with Russia, rather than because they thought the song was the best one. (Not saying I agree or disagree, will stay neutral on that one too!)

People also blame how unpopular the UK is at Eurovision on political factors, saying Europe don't like us as a country because of Brexit or other things we do. Although I'm not sure how much I agree on that one. I think the years we've sent a good act with a good song, we've had a decent chunk of the votes. But other years we haven't done that and have understandably done badly.

There's always allegations of countries just voting for their favourite neighbours and stuff like that too.

I'd say for the majority of fans, it is just a bit of fun and it's all about the music, how good the songs are and how well the acts perform them. But sometimes the political stuff does become an issue, and this year did have a fair few heated moments because of some of the things going on in the world.

Hopefully we can all just enjoy the fun bits though, and set aside any differences :)

Yeah that makes sense @Rosie_Scope thanks for explaining!! :)

I won't say where I stand on the politics or if I even stand at all :D  but all I would say is (maybe this is very discriminatory of me) I doubt a 20 year old girl is overly high up in the Israeli military so I don't think it's fair to blame her and bully her :(

I can see how politics does creep into it though like with the examples you mention and I'm glad most people see it as a bit of fun!!! :)

My voting system is very simple

    1) Can they sing?
    2) Did they perform well?
    3) Does the song have meaning/depth

For me this year Eden ticked all the boxes and her song was very emotional and moving so I cheered her on from the start, I even bought her song from the iTunes Store which isn’t something I do often.
