Pension credit, SDP

in PIP, DLA, and AA
I think I may be eligible for pension credit, as  part of my award for PIP is for daily living enhanced. I live alone and also receive full basic state pension. I am trying to find out if I would also be entitled to claim SDP. If so, is this something I should claim separately, or is this all calculated when you submit a claim for pension credit? Any advice welcome. Thanks

    It's paid as part of the PC calculation and known as Severe disability Allowance.

    Sorry, that should be "addition" not allowance and you're welcome.

    How long can it take for Pension Credit claims to be processed?

    The last I heard there were backlogs of up to about 5 or 6 months.

    Thanks for replying. I was wondering. After applying online 11/4 it said to contact if I hadn’t heard anything by 23/5. I guess my hopes were set far too high! They will need extra information, so waiting for them to contact me. Looks like it’s going to be another long wait!

    I have spoken to someone at Pension Credit today. They inform me the claim is being processed and to ring back in one week. They also say I may be contacted either phone or email if required. As I am on PIP enhanced care does this automatically entitle me to pension credit? Advice welcome please. Thanks

    PIP doesn't automatically entitle you to Pension Credit. If you live alone and no one claims Carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after you then the calculation should include the SDA.(known as SDP in other benefits) Your state pension and any other pensions you maybe receiving will all count as income when calculating PC.     I am in receipt of full state pension and live alone. No one claims carers allowance for me. I understand I would be eligible for the severe disability premium. Thanks again

    Are you claiming any other pensions? Those would be treated as income as well.

    No, I only have the state pension and a small investment. No other pensions

    I rang the Pension Credit line today to find out the status of my new claim. Told it’s taking approx 6-8 weeks to process . It’s past that period of time for me now. I was told someone would ring me within 10 days to update on the claim. Anyone else waiting this long?

    Why is it taking so long? This is the second time I have been told someone will ring me. No one rang first time! They can’t even tell me if it’s being processed or what status it is at so I am presuming no one is even looking at the claim.

    Backlogs cause delays and there's been backlogs for PC for quite sometime now. I know it's frustrating but there's nothing more you can do but wait. You will of course receive all the money you're entitled to if awarded it.
