PIP Review

Hi,

I’ve had my PIP review today via telephone. I’ve been so anxious about it and now I’m stressing about the outcome! Anyway onto the question…

If my PIP award is increased, will DWP backdate the payment? My review was extended due to COVID (I think they added 12 months on). And my review today I think was either 12-18 months after the review should have been When my original claim ran out.

Thank you,

Charlotte

Under normal circumstances if it's a review started by DWP then they don't usually owe you anything if the new award is higher. However, we have had some members that have been awarded a higher rate from a review started by DWP and they have received the difference between the old and new award but i'm not saying this has applied to everyone.

If the worst happens and you're refused then your PIP will stop.

In general any increase is not backdated if the increase is the result of a review initiated by DWP. However some posters have reported that they have had increases backdated as a result of a DWP review.

What I was told is if my award goes up it is backdated from when the DM made his/her decision.

If the award goes down in payment or award lost then you don't need to pay back the monies you have recieved as award goes again on the date the DM made the award.

That is what I'm led to believe, unless you informed them of change of circumstances then the award is backdated.

Someone with far more knowledge and experience will be on soon to clarify.

I have just had my award review assessment after waiting 7 months and I'm led to believe if my award goes up I will not get backdated money due to the DWP contacting me and not the other way round, hope that makes sense as I'm not always good at putting down what I mean

As you say that is normally correct for reviews initiated by DWP whereas a review resulting from a claimant reporting a change of circumstances would have backdating too the date the change was reported.

However as noted in the simultaneous posts by myself and poppy some posters have recently reported backdating of DWP reviews however I haven't seen any policy announcements about this.

I had my pip review decision today and i was awarded highest on both daily and mobility before i had highest mobility but standard daily so they backdated the payment to 2021 which was when i received the review form the whole pip experience this time was totally different to last time this time they agreed to do a paper based assesment due to my mental health and they were very helpful throughout the whole process

Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know following the above, that PIP informed me any claims are backdated, not just the one whereby a claimant had requested a review.

    hope this helps :)

Under normal times that isn’t correct. Usually if a review is started by DWP there’s not usually any money owed if your new award is higher.

Due to huge backlogs of people waiting for review decisions they are sometimes backdating the award to an earlier time. Though it doesn’t apply to everyone.

Sounds like you are owed some money. To know for certain you will need to ring and ask them.
