Hi my name is not D0tty but sign up form wouldn't accept the real thing! I have a gorgeous 23yr old son with CP, hydrocephalus, learning difficulties & some very challenging behaviours. I am told the the damage to his brain means a physical inability to inhibit his impulses. His speech has been described by psychologists as Tourette like & often a string of obscenities is interspersed with sorry, sorry as though he is fighting to control it. Other times he just lets rip & enjoys it! Very wearing though & as he is dependent for all personal care it can make it difficult to give him that care. It also makes socialising uncomfortable!! He can give outreach support staff a very hard time too so having a break is stressful & I'm sure it's very stressful for him to be so wound up so much of time, which is tragic. He is lovely, can be funny , caring & endearing but his life is so restricted by his behaviour on top of restrictions of physical disability, it makes me sad. There is so much he physically can't do & then he says no on principle to anything he can do. It's a bit more colourful than plain no. I'd like to hear how other carers manage.
