The ESA being deducted from UC doesn't apply to those that are claiming Income Related ESA. It only applies to those claiming either New style or contributions based ESA. For those claiming Income Related ESA once a claim for UC is submitted their ESA will continue for 2 weeks and then stop completely.

That's not correct if someone's ESA is all Income Related. It only applies for someone claiming either New style ESA or contributions based ESA. Please be careful with the advice you give because it's misleading in some cases.

That's ok, I sent my esa review form back in January, my conditions have got worse so I'm still waiting to hear from them and to see if I be moved into a different group. It's frustrating especially if we are having to move to UC so soon.

You can't just go onto this. For ESA it's Support Group and you need to meet the criteria for this first.

No problem. There's actually 3 types of ESA's, not 2. New style ESA, which is a contributions based only benefit and can't include the Income Related top up and is what you're claiming. Then the old contributions based, which can include the Income Related top up and also Income Related.

I want to add that I first saw a DEA in 2008 when claiming disability-related Income Support. These are not new positions within job centres.

I’ll apologise in advance as I didn’t read all the link asummerLove posted, but this was a quote from John Redwoods reply “strongly support the initiative to help more people who are long-term sick and disabled into work where they wish to do that”

I have no faith in Liz Kendall and us disabled I’m just hoping for a miracle, they need to go after the people who refuse to workm

I totally agree they will be using the “it’s good for mh to work” but they need to understand mh, as previously said in this post when I become overwhelmed I start shouting at people and become frustrated, how is me feeling like that good let alone for an employer or other colleagues

I don’t blame you Catherine for having the volume down, I don’t watch at all I just look on the news sites to see the latest or read on here

@SummerLove you said "most end up at Tribunal for the WCA" but that's not true because the majority of people are found to have LCWRA/Support Group (65%). Which means most do not end up at Tribunal.

Since April 2019, DWP have made 2.4 million decisions. Of these decisions, 16% of people were found to have no limited capability for work and hence no longer on UC health, 19% limited capability for work (LCW), and 65% limited capability for work and work-related activity (LCWRA).

    https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/universal-credit-work-capability-assessment-statistics-april-2019-to-december-2023/universal-credit-work-capability-assessment-april-2019-to-december-2023#uc-work-capability-assessment-decisions-and-outcomes

ESA Support Group stats are slightly higher at 69%. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/esa-outcomes-of-work-capability-assessments-including-mandatory-reconsiderations-and-appeals-june-2024/esa-work-capability-assessments-mandatory-reconsiderations-and-appeals-june-2024#work-capability-assessment-outcomes

    • 69% of outcomes for Support Group
    • 14% of outcomes were for Work Related Activity Group
    • 17% of outcomes were found Fit for Work

Who wants to be disabled in this cruel country would be easier to be independent than this fear of losing everything never knowing when your time comes for the chopping board god I wish My life turned out differently I really do at the mercy of greedy parasites who hoard all the money for themselves family friends who love the power and control shame on them the best karma for them is to get an illness that money can't cure sick of it sick of them
