hi

I wonder if anyone can tell me how long after having Botox injections for severe muscle spasms in my back would I start to notice them lessening and getting weaker?

I had Botox from my consultant on friday evening , but today (Monday) they are still spasming strongly.

Any help please . I know full effect is within 2 weeks but I just would like to know when I would start feeling they’re getting less???

Hi @wildrose53, did the consultant say how long the spasms would last? It does seem like they should have stopped, are you able to call the clinic at all? As they may be best informed to let you know if it's not right, and if so the best action to take. Given they are specialists at it!

Keep us updated, I hope you can sort out the spasms soon. It must be really unpleasant and quite painful.

The consultant who gave me the Botox has gone on holiday to America until August. I’ve tried his secretary but sge said sge has no idea how soon I should get any relief. I was given 100 units. These spasms started again after I’d had medial branch block injections

It's okay I've seen your reply now!

If you've still receiving a lot of pain do you have any pain relief? If it takes two weeks then it may take up to a week before you see any proper results. You may want to see your GP if there is anything they can give you to help you until it is meant to start taking effect?

I emailed my Gp about what the consultants secretary told me to do. She said in the absence of the consultant to contact Gp. The annoying thing is I had some Botox for muscle spasms on 20th June and by 22nd June they’d gone.

I was very weak as I’d been bedbound for 9 weeks with these spasms as diazeoam & baclofen didn’t touch them.

Moving on to kast friday, I had to have a medial branch block done which has been planned since last August. Within 2 hrs I was getting severe muscle spasms again so consultant had me back in and gave me 100 units if Botox. I thought they’d work as quick as the first lot did but they haven’t.
it’s no good calling 111 or ambulance as o was at the hospital twice prior to having the first lot of Botox injections. I was in A&E 6 hrs rolling round in outpatient n. They did nothing and discharged m saying Backache!! My Gp hasn’t responded to me today.
I’ve got my tens machine on all the time.
would 100 units have been enough? Could they have been dud batch. ?

    Thanks for replying - Rose

I'm afraid I cannot answer your last two questions as I am not a medical professional. If you are in a lot of pain I would see about trying to get painkillers from you doctor temporarily if possible and waiting to see if these injections work. If the consultant said two weeks it may take that long before you see benefit.

the consultant said 2 weeks to fully benefit but 1-3 days to notice a difference.
I’m already on paracetamol 4 times a day & reducing diazepam that didn’t even touch the spasns at 15mg. I reduced now to 6mg as from today

@wildrose53 it sounds very painful. Is there anyway your consultants secretary could put you in touch with another consultant in the same field for advice? If your consultant isn't available until August, surely there must be someone covering for him and made available to offer advice to his patients while away?? I do hope you get answers soon.

    Hi @wildrose53.

Did you get in touch with your GP? They'd hopefully know how to help you in the best way. As @onedayatatime said, there should be another consultant they could put you in touch with.

Let us know how you get on.

    @onedayatatime

Thanks for your reply. I’ve phoned all pain consultants that I can find and none have any availability until September

@wildrose53 how have you been? Have you managed to speak to anyone who could offer you any help? I hope your muscle spasms have eased somewhat or that you've made contact with a consultant or someone who could assist you with managing your pain.

I had Botox & it stopped the spasms but all the muscles on that left side really hurt and ache.
I have high ESR so am thinking the muscles are inflamed
