Hi

Please can any one offer advise. I have had my laptop for 9yrs. My screen upon start up is full of fuzzy lines and black splodges. I have severe artheritis. I have just been given notice to leave private rented property as they are selling. I need the laptop to access social housing sites and I use it to speak and type. Is there anywhere that anyone knows that offer free laptops. Thsnkyou

    Who's around today, @Adrian_Scope I replied to this several hours ago. It was all good sterling stuff, some links I'd found to free computers for the disabled and those on UC. I'm guessing something triggered the spam filter. Could you check please?

We've offered advice to many more…..All we ask from you is to cover any costs that our charity has spent when providing a laptop for you. We don't want anything extra, what it costs us is what it will cost you, it's as simple as that.

    Which I guess might be the cost of petrol delivering.

    If you're an older person you might try Age UK. I know they distributed laptops to folks during the pandemic.

    What version of Windows does your laptop run ?

    You may want to try A FACTORY RESET - before replacing it ?

    This will reinstall windows as if it is a brand new laptop

    Do you have any repair cafes that meet up at a local library or council rooms at all? They can often look at and repair a lot of different kinds of electronics. They may not be able to fix a broken laptop screen unfortunately but if there's another issue as well they could help.

    Your local library does also often have computers for use if it's accessible to you!

    It doesn't sound as if the screen is physically damaged - probably just corrupt software - so a reinstall of windows should sort it out…..

    Mind you - a 9 year old laptop is probably needing a new battery as well - so it may not be salvageable ?

    I think it's a blow or pressure injury. In any case, older Windows do not provide Internet security
