Today's IT outage

It was nothing to do with end users - it was caused by an security update that went wrong.

Haha! Imagine that you are a soldier and you are given a box of rusty grenades - will you randomly check them before the battle or not? Any software updates should be tested by users of critical computer systems in an isolated test environment. Any qualified software engineer knows this. Also, when blood is transfused, it is checked for compatibility immediately before the procedure, despite the label.

No - I wouldn't go near the rusty grenades - I would order replacements !!
The software updates - yes a worrying event - that may not have been selectable by the "end users" / IT sections
Some updates are set automatically with no input needed or possible from the "end users" / IT sections - which I understand was the case on Friday - in which case - it was NOT possible to avoid the update.

I know the shops card machine was playing up last week. She asked me if it's not working to ask the customers to pay with cash if they can
