Hi guys! Currently in the midst of a disability discrimination complaint with ET.

So Hello!!
Thought I'd share some great sources.

You can search party cases Google ET Case Law.

Disability Advice service has a great guidebook for the law.

Loom for Tamara, Lewis guide you disability discrimination.

Valla looks great for paper work.

Search the Stammers guide to discrimination  for writing an impact statement and understandi g how you need to express your disability and how ur effects you know day to day.

(Think about your worst day, without adjustments or medication)

Hi @tattylashes :) Thank you for sharing this with us, as I'm sure other members will find it interesting to read.

How have you found the process so far?

    Hi All,

I'm having to prepare a Disability Impact Statement for an Employment Tribunal Hearing.

I'm so anxious my disability is taking over my ability to write it.

    Can anyone help please?

    thanks so much

Hi, reference your disability impact statement and finding it hard to write it….have you tried an AI (artificial intelligence) programme such as Chat gpt

I would suggest this too anyone who struggles to put their thoughts down into words..

The program will generate whatever you want it too based on what you ask and how you ask a question. For instance you could specifically ask

Write a disability impact statement for an employment tribunal based on my diagnosis of ???? and the known symptoms and side effects of this disease and how this may effect my work as a ????

    or

Write a disability impact statement for an employment tribunal based on my diagnosis of ???? And the specific symtoms that affect me such as ???? And ????……also describe how my symptoms can effect my job as a ????

The more information you provide when phrasing your question will generate a better response. Using keywords about any illness or symptoms can also help.

The above was suggested to me and I found it very helpful in gathering all my thoughts into one place……people can say it’s cheating etc, but you need to keep in mind that you likely already know what you want to say, you just struggle to make it coherent, and just like a calculator can help with numbers this program can help by helping you structure a response.

Give it a go and see how you get on. If nothing else it might just provide a template for you to work from or just help with how to bundle all those things you want to say into a format that’s easier to read.

    Just a suggestion.

Hi @Bydand thank you so much. This is super helpful.

Quick question, do I need to put anything about what caused these injuries from work in it? Or is that what I say at the ET hearing?

    So nervous - thank you.

    Hi again

Just thought chat GTP would be worth a try in helping get your thoughts into a readable format….

As for your question, I am not an expert and every case will be different so I can’t really offer advice to you. Hopefully others here will chime in with far more knowledge.

Did you start the ET claims process directly through acas as generally that would be the usual method. If through acas would you not have already given detailed information/ statement about the cause of your work related injuries on the ET1 form before being asked to provide an impact statement.

Being nervous is an understandable emotion so you wouldn’t be alone in that

thanks again, this makes sense now. My brain has gone fussy after working through COVID 19 duties without being protected.

Yes it will be on my ET1. I did raise two grievances but they never bothered replying and then had to whistleblow again at the hospital where I worked with still no support, hence getting to this point. Despite Occupational Health input advising them to support me, they never replied to that either.

Thanks again so much for taking the time to reply.

    No worries,

As part of your impact statement if you did want to include brief details you could always 'describe your disability' starting with something along the lines of….Whilst employed with ???? from ???? to ???? I suffered ???? as a result of ????….keeping it brief just gives reminds them

but if already included in ET1 then it wouldn't matter as the tribunal will be fully aware already of why you are there.

Keep us all informed of how it went and good luck

Thanks so much Scott, you've been so helpful. CAB only gave me an example of IBS to go on, nothing at all like CPTSD or being unable to walk with arthritis!

    Have a great week.

    Morning Scott,

Just wanted to say thanks so much again. Chat GPT was amazing and gave me so much confidence to write a professional statement to stand up for myself against the other side's solicitor.

It made me super sad that they never replied to my concerns of poor care services, nor help with getting proper fit mask protection when I said I was vulnerable, but as soon as I issue an ET1, they reply faster than a rocket.

Thanks again so very much for taking the time to write.

    Hi,

Glad you found my suggestion helpful. With something so important as an impact statement being able to cohesively put down what you want to say in a well written format is helpful…..it is quite impressive how (chatgtp) works and takes what you want to convey and formats it in a very clear manner…..super quick too!…..The good thing is you can ask different things and it will provide an answer, then you have the choice to take bits and pieces from the various responses and use the best bits that are relevant to you.

My wife has played around with it with some funny responses…..She asked it to write a funny poem about our dog and it was hilarious.

Yes it’s funny how an employer can react and be spurred on to being more helpful after being issued an ET1….funny that!

Hopefully things work out the way you want them too and you get a positive result.

Feel free to ask questions and do let myself and the forum know how you get on……it can be very helpful for others going through similar to hear your experiences.

Remember, although an employer may argue against everything you are claiming, the tribunal is only interested in the facts and if you can provide those facts and evidence what has happened then there really should be no dramas. Don’t make things personal, stick to the facts as you see them.

    Best wishes

Thanks for the reassurance and love the story of your wife and your dog poem 😊

Yep everything is documented with evidence too. You've given me hope, thank you so much 🙏
