I understand your concerns @Catherine21 but Labour have been in power for about two months and they have a lot to do still and lots of mess to clean up.

You need to remember there's a heck of a lot of damage that needs fixing, with a limited purse and parliament are currently on their 'summer holidays' so there's not a great deal happening right now.

I understand I hope they don't take from us isn't there a welfare pot and millions is not claimed ???

The benefits machine is huge and not for us mere mortals to comprehend @Catherine21 I think if we tried to understand it all, our brains would properly break. 😆
I'd suggest trying not to think about it and shove on an episode of Interview with a vampire instead. 😊

Keep in mind that the new government has only been in office for just over seven weeks, with Parliament in recess and the conference season still ahead. This has limited their ability to make significant changes or introduce legislation.
Their upcoming September conference may clarify their priorities, especially on immigration, which was highlighted in their manifesto. While it might seem like there have been more excuses than actions, it could be worth waiting to see what happens when Parliament resumes.
As for Labour's impact so far, it is hard to judge during the recess, but I was impressed with how swiftly Labour addressed the civil unrest and the online publication of material intended to stir up racial hatred in early August, despite being on recess. Their decisive action in these matters was notable.

I fully agree with @MW123 it's far too early to tell.
Plus I'd be careful about which sites you get your news from, there's so many that are just trying to make people scared and angry. It's definitely not good for the old noggin.

I am not suggesting we all get upset - pause for someone to put on some beautiful soothing pieces of meditation music - but it wouldn't be quite so bad if they'd done nothing except deal with the obvious emergency of civil unrest. They have lost no time being decisive over the Winter Fuel Payment and the strikes. Well (evil grin) I just think the threshold for the WFP ought to be the previous wage of train-drivers - was that not too little to live on…I do but jest. Maybe.

I think we will get more of an idea of what is going to happen after the first budget on the 30 October 2024. Fingers crossed. @Catherine21

I'm a member of the Labour Party. Not sure for how much longer - that may depend on the Budget. I expect them to indicate they are broadly on the side of the poor, cold, hungry, sick and indeed old. I'm not getting the right signals here. One of the more depressing wrong signals is nothing to do with benefits. I read Labour are cosying up to Deliveroo management when the poor delivery folks are paid a pittance and there's a get out card whereby they won't benefit from workers' rights legislation.

I'm not either that kier starmer gone back on alot I didn't mind him so much before but now I do not like him or his side kicks keep saying no money Blackhole come on !!@ bank print money and how got money for Ukraine Africa and kids starving and elderly why think going to be good to us it already speaks for its self I' won't be watching 30th October I will see after as I know what's coming

Unfortunately banks can't just print more money @Catherine21
Printing money causes currency to devalue in real terms. Which then means increasing the real cost of goods, which impacts the poorest in society most, as wages and benefits would not rise to meet the costs. The results of printing money are economic underperformance and increased inequality. So when the government say there's no money, they're not lying. 😪
The government are committed to give overseas aid too, though whilst it seems like we're just giving money away, in reality we're helping make other countries lives better, which then helps us economically. The money also goes to things like programs to help stop global warming, increase global education and tackling some of the root causes that will make people emigrate from those countries. So by tackling those causes, they're helping to reduce immigration to the UK.
We've been left in a terrible state and there are no quick fixes unfortunately.
