Grants

I cant walk far and in constant pain and breathlessness. I was looking at mobility scooters - one I could fit in the car, as I hired one the other day, and it was wonderful to be able to get around. I cant even afford a second-hand one, and wondered if there was a grant I could apply for that would help me. My husband is taking driving lessons as i am not going to be able to drive for too much longer, and was told by his instructor there could be help available to assist him with that too.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks x

Hi @laine, if you're on any benefits with a mobility component you might be eligible for the motability scheme, which enables you to exchange your mobility allowance for a lease of a mobility scooter or car. You can find out more about eligibility and the scheme here.

Hi - I am still waiting, but have applied for a grant from Mobility Trust.
They sent me the forms, and they are currently with my GP and Nurse, as I need a Doc to sign one form and a letter from a nurse and for her to sign something else goodness me!!! Anyway, when all that is done, I have to be assessed by someone the Trust sends, then they do fund raising apparently - oh I have to send a letter too (as well as filling in loads of other stuff). I asked them for a second hand scooter, but it will be new!!!! There is so much to do and it is extremely daunting, I dread writing my letter, as I have to talk about me and I dont like doing that! But I think it helps weed out those who are triers from those who are really in need. -
Thanks for the update.
I've not come across Mobility Trust before (their site looks a little broken - http://www.mobilitytrust.org.uk/index.html) but that sounds great. I can't see the application page - do they help people anywhere in the country?
Good luck with all the form filling! -
Hi Alex
Try this.... http://www.mobilitytrust.org.uk/Pages/need_help.html and it tells you who to get in touch with. It seems as though they will help anywhere in the country, and it tells you what information to give them in the email or snail mail
