Work Capability appointment text but no letter.

Hey all. Someone is writing this for me so it may take time to read and reply 🙂

I just received a text telling me to remember to attend my work Capability assesment but I never received a letter. If not for this text I wouldn't even know I had one.

I'm worried that I'll fail. I have autism and learning disabilities as well as sensory problems and dyspraxia. Will the job centre staff force me in to any job they can get me on if I fail? I have problems speaking and eye contact. I live on my own now and worried this will affect things. Thanks.

Heya @Wonderman I totally get the anxiety. But please try not to worry. The assessments are just so they can work out if they think you can or cant work, so there's no failing. Is there anything in your UC journal mentioning the WCA at all?

The letter may arrive in the post soon, it often takes quite a few days for letters to be sent out but text reminders are automatically generated.

Try not to worry too much about what the outcome maybe and concentrate on the assessment itself first. The majority of people are found to have LCWRA and if you don't have the correct decision you can challenge it.

During the assessment please remember to answer the questions with as much information as possible. It's advised not to answer any questions with just a yes or no.

You can have someone with you during the assessment. If you have an appointee then they will be responsible for answering the questions.

I have all my papers ready. There hasn't been any mention of the work capability assesment in my journal. My work coach did mention it 3 months ago and I signed the papers. I knew it would come so I got copies of medical evidence and diagnosis papers ready, but during the time of signing the papers I didn't have them but they will be coming with me to this assesment. I'll try not to worry 🙂

I have someone who is willing to come with me, but I've always dealt with these assesments alone (go in alone and answered questions alone) because I won't always have help at hand. I try and do what I can alone. It makes me feel better in a way because I feel like I'm doing something for myself

And this may sound silly but should I shave? I've spoken to my support worker and he says it doesn't really matter but it's kinda worrying me lol. Sorry if this sounds silly but it's kinda worrying me that I don't look presentable. Lol

I wouldn’t expect there to be anything mentioned in your journal about the assessment.

You should be yourself when you attend the assessment so if you usually shave then you should do that.
