19 yr old Student not Eligible for UC
My Son turned 19 in August & has been removed off our UC Claim, resulting in a loss of £775 a Month. His a Full Time Student with a EHCP & claiming PIP.
We spoken to UC about him Claiming UC for himself, but was told his NOT Eligible as his got PIP so can use that. when we mention about the being over £700 short each Month the UC woman just Shrugged and said "It Is What It Is .. "
I have lost count how many calls i have made over the last 2 day including to Carer Support Groups, and no one has any answers. Been told he should be entitled to something, but know body has any idea WHAT.
I'm going to try CAB Tomorrow. But if no luck there then i'm done.
My Nerves are shot to pieces & Anxiety is through the roof at mo.
Any Help / Advice is appreciated.
Even just to know i'm Not Alone would help at moment

Heya @NOTok2024 and welcome to the community from me too.
I'm so sorry to hear you're being pushed from pillar to post and I totally understand your anxiety over all of this. Had anyone given you information on Disabled Students Allowance? That could be a step in the right direction maybe? It's also worth speaking to the university to see what support they can offer.0 -
Hi
For reference, it is not the PIP that prevents him claiming UC.
It is because he is a full time student. Most FT students cannot claim UC. However it is possible to claim if he is studying what they class as 'non-advanced' education, does not have a student loan and is available for work.
I wonder if he would fit the criteria above?

Thankyou Guys.
Had No joy with CAB as couldn't past the Automated Voice Services.
Finally Managed to get through to a really lovely Understanding and Helpful Man from Scope,
Going to be looking at speaking to College to find out about Student loans & bursary's.
I Know PIP isn't whats Stopping my son from Claiming Uc.
But Its the UC's Coaches ATTITUDE and saying "Well his got his PIP he can Use that, as thats what its there for .."
I left before i said what i was thinking as didn't want to get sanctioned.
She's one of those Coaches that look down on you like you Scum. She don't seem to Understand what comes with being an UNPAID Full Time Carer.1 -
Thankyou will Defo look into it 👍️

Hi @NOTok2024 did you get this sorted. I am in the same situation and very worried. I will not be able to cope with this loss of money. My son turns 19 in July and was going to do another year in college, but if he cannot get UC will have to leave. Not ideal as he has been unable to find work, even part time.
