Carers Element

Do UC automatically backdate carers element? If so how long do they take to backdate payment? Or do I have to apply for backdating? If so how do I request this?

No they do not. Once you have reported the change of circumstances, it will be sent to a decision maker to decide whether you have 'good reason' for reporting late. Once this is done the UC team will have to manually calculate any back payment owed and will adjust your statements accordingly.

If you've reported the change of circumstances and haven't heard anything, add a note to your journal asking about back payment and they should get the ball rolling.

As already advised in your previous thread. For you there’s nothing to backdate because this is a recent claim for UC and the carers element should be paid from the start of your claim. The element should be included in your statement which you’ll need to check when you receive it. See previous thread here

Thank you Poppy123456, it's unfortunately they did not give full information in this query.

You are spot on, they will not back date to before a claim for UC was made.

Betts24, what benefits were you claiming before you claimed UC?

Then the advice is correct carers element can’t be backdated. The reason for that is because it’s part of UC.

What Poppy123456 has said is spot on. There is no backdate owed to you in this circumstance as you were not claiming a benefit which had the carer element Betts24.
