Backdated disability premiums after migration
Hi I had forced migration to universal credit in August from income support, I have now just been awarded enhanced pip backdating to june. Can I ask income support to pay me backdated disability premiums because this pip award goes back to before forced migration but was not made until afterwards. Obviously this would add up to a few hundred pounds and should then also mean I should have a higher universal credit award due to transitional protection.

Yes contact Income Support and tell them about your recent PIP award.
Were you living with or without other adults? If with were they also claiming a qualifying disability benefit such as daily living PIP, DLA mid/high rate care or AA?
If your PIP includes Enhanced daily living then your IS would have also included the Enhanced Disability Premium. If it doesn’t then you wouldn’t have been entitled to that one.
Yes your UC Transition Protection should also be recalculated.

Thankyou for you reply.
I have 1 adult child at home but he recieves pip.
I have been awarded double enhanced.
Do I just phone income support and request they backdate disability premium? Is it that straight forward.
Who do I contact to get transitional protection recalcualted?

Hello @quail and welcome to the community. Once Income Support recalculate disability premiums, you should then contact Universal Credit to discuss them recalculating your transitional protection.

Thankyou both for your help I was worried they would not backdate disability elements because I had been migrated to uc.

For the disability premiums you will be entitled to all 3 of them, the disability premium, Enhanced disability Premium (EDP) and Severe Disability Premium. (SDP)
When you ring IS please make sure you ask to claim the SDP as well and the form for that can be filled in over the phone.

Just phoned after a bit of messing about as my claim is showing as redundant due to the migration, the advisor filled a form in to claim the disability premiums but could not give me any idea how long it will take.

Hi thankyou so much for your help.
I have just recieved backdated enhanced disability premium but I have not recieved either the disability premium or severe disability premiums are they usually paid separately or should i give them another call.
It has also just occurred to me that I should probably contact housing benefit as my income for that period has now changed due to recieving this backpay.

The other 2 maybe done separately. Did you apply for the SDP because this isn't automatically paid.
For housing benefit because you were claiming IS then you should have already been receiving your maximum entitlement unless there were any non dependant deductions.

I asked if the form he was filling in was for all the disability premiums and he said it was

If the SDP form was filled in over the phone they would have asked you questions about who you live with.
You will need to ring them regardless.

Thankyou poppy, yes he did ask questions about who lives with me I will give it a few more days and if nothing else appears in bank or I dont get a letter I will phone back up. Amount recieved today is the exact amount owed for enhanced disability premium.
Housing benefit..will i owe them money now with the disability premiums being added to income support if not then no need to contact them
