Claiming uc
Hello
I've just claimed uc , as we had a migration notice
I've done the linking up to make it a joint claim, my husband he's on ESA , but there wasn't an option to mention he's in the support group, will they automatically put him on the LCWRA or do we have to mention that on his journal? Also i receive carers allowance, will i be expected to do the work commitments?
Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Having recently did this myself I sent a note via my journal explaining that I was in support group ESA & it has all been actioned without any fuss.

Well been in contact with UC as I'm a carer and lwca turns out new rules in I will have to find work now

Well that is very strange my partner is my carer & having written all this in the journal I had no stress at all.

Thank you for that information very helpful , oh I was under the impression if you claimed carers allowance, you didn't have to look for work? OK I will have to wait and see what happens then thanks again x

Just make sure you put in as much detail as possible my partner works & cares for me anyway so not sure regarding carer needing to work.

Are you in receipt of UC carers element as you stated you are in receipt of carers allowance as well. If you are caring for more than 35 hours per week, you don't need to write on the journal all times. I have written once as they are aware I am doing a job, caring for my son full-time time.

o get working tax credit and my wife gets cares allowance- just tried to deal with migration to UC… talk about complicated tortuous system - I fact when I listed all my health conditions it seemed to just assume I didn’t work and so could find a way to put in my work earnings - I’ve probably got it wrong but I’m so hacked off with having to constantly write my whole life and health and impairments down and even then have to prove it over and over again I feel like just ditching it all.
If I still had my EU citizenship I would be gone in a flash - I’m no sori g chicken but I feel as an aging and life king disabled person I feel more and more marginalised and excluded day by day - it used to be I l loved my London life and from an family that’s lived in a multicultural London for 400 years and an NHS that cared for me and looked after my health for over 50 years - now it’s no longer there. I feel, especially as physically disabled people we have become a problem and are increasingly being seen as THE problem especially as we age.

We migrated to UC early September from CTC, first payment 10th October. Husband claims carers allowance for youngest child and has been told therefore will not have to do any work commitments

As a carer you don't have to be available for work but carers allowance is deducted from universal credit.

Hiya,
No you don't have to do any claimant commitments if you're a carer. I'm my partners carer and I've no commitments. It's a newish claim too. My partner on the other hand has to hand fit notes in because he's not yet had his work capability assessment. We were on income support previously, not ESA. So that's why he's to have the work capability assessment.
However, after our first appointment with the job centre, they could see he's in no fit state so they've not given him any claimant commitments, just told him to keep sending fit notes in until he has his WCA.
UC is all new to us too and I'm still trying to figure it out but I know I don't have to look for work because I'm a carer. X

Well told them I'm on care element care allowance and on my journal today for myself not hubby journal got phone call from now to 28 th October with a work coach for my next step going back to work if I don't answer the phone call then we're both sanctioned

This is really stressing me out my husband had a stroke I'm disabled I have to do everything no help wot so ever now this how can I leave him when he can't do anything I'm disabled can't drive till I get knee replaced they are doing this to me

That's strange.
Obviously your hubby gets PIP? And you get carers allowance for caring for him..
My other half had a phone call booked in but then they cancelled it. He then got sent a UC50 and has his work capability assessment over the phone this week.
I've had nothing to say I have to look for work. Do you have children?

As a carer you will have no commitments and no work requirements. Is this a recent new claim?

both myself and husband claim uc , he is my full time carer having had to give up work from construction to become my carer, he also claims carers allowance, i myself also claim the lcwra & pip , he does NOT have to look for work at all ,he nor myself get any commitments , maybe you are getting a little mixed up with it all as it can be stressful when filling everything out X 🤔

Is it a new claim? If so, have you filled it in correctly?
Im just trying to think of how it worked out for us when we first claimed back in July and rough time lines.
We were on managed migration and had to claim separately but then link them together which we did.
Then other half despite being on PIP had to go into the job centre to meet his work coach about 2 weeks after starting the claim. We were on income support prior to UC, not ESA so that's why he's had a few more hoops to jump through.
They gave him no claimant commitments. Just said to send fit notes in which we have been doing. I didn't have to attend as I'm under no obligation to find work with me being his carer but I went with him because he really struggles on his own.
Job centre meeting went well. We got told to expect a UC50 to fill in. We had a message on journal later that same day to say he'd been booked in for a phonecall but then a message straight after to say they'd cancelled it. Then another message asking for a fit note.
If there's anything you've not filled in correctly they will tell you on the journal as soon as they come across it and how to rectify it. Recently done a change of circumstances as sons started an apprenticeship so we had to remove him off the claim (we've only got 1 child on our claim now) and they messaged within 24 hours to say id not quite done it right. I'd removed him from the claim but forgot to add him as a non dependant or "other people" who still lives with us - I still had him as down a child. They told me how to rectify it then confirmed I'd done it right.
With you both having health issues, it seems like theres been some confusion maybe?
Ours was straight forwards and I'm sure they even told me when I'd filled my part of the claim in that I didn't need to look for work.
I think by the sounds of it, some wires have been crossed somewhere in your case maybe? I'd be querying it tbh
