Husband awarded LCWRA

in Universal Credit (UC)

Hi, my husband has been awarded LCWRA and I've been asked to have a telephone medical assessment. My question is, what's the point in me having this assessment when they can only pay LCWRA component once as a joint claim. Why do I need a medical assessment when we wouldn't be paid any extra anyway? I don't understand and all of this really affects my mental health.

    Hi @kittycat1976, Sorry to hear this is affecting you at the moment. Even though there wouldn't be another payment due should you be found LCWRA, it might affect your commitments for your claim. Are you working at all?

    People on LCW or standard Universal Credit claims are often still expected to prepare for work in some way. If you have a disability or health condition that affects your ability to work, it's probably still useful to be found LCWRA as you wouldn't have to meet these kinds of commitments.

    I see from a previous thread that you're claiming carers element of UC. This means you have no work commitments anyway. The reason why you need an assessment is because you reported your health condition and provided a fit note when you claimed UC.
