Hello, Looking for advice please.

My child wishes to return to school. Not had much luck with mainstream schools therefore we're looking at Secondary SEN instead. Who should i turn to for advice and support please? want to ensure we make to the choice and my childs needs are met.

Heya @Sunshine24 and welcome to the community.

I don't know a great deal about SEN schools unfortunately, but what I've done is renamed your discussion and moved it to the education category, so more people in the know will be able to see it and hopefully offer some top advice. I hope that's ok?

    Hi @Sunshine24

As @Bluebell21 said IPSEA is a great site to look at and try to contact. They have a lot of information, and if you are going to contact them, just keep trying. If you can get through or get an appointment they are invaluable.

If you haven't already, you may have more luck contacting your local advisory centre for advice first. If you type into a search engine your local authority name followed by SENDIASS something should come up. You can also type in your local authority name followed by the words "local offer" and that will take you to your local SEN site. You can then fine the advisory service there.

    Good luck.

Of course if you live in Wales @Sunshine24, contact SNAP Cymru instead.

hi just to come in there with a different prospective I went to a special needs secondary school but I was treated horribly. I got less support, they used to dunk me under the hydro therapy pool and they used to shout at me for not getting dressed to the point that they used to send me outside with one arm in my coat.

However I went to a mainstream school with a SEND unit and 1-2-1 support. I used to have a teacher called Mrs B and she was the best ever she used to teach me life skills, do physio and cook/bake with us.

In conclusion would you be able to find a secondary school that has a SEND unit like mine?

Hey, thanks for your comment. Rather grateful. We are both looking at options at the moment. Sounds like this maybe something we would look into...My child so wants to return to school which I'm happy do. It's just finding the right school, right setting and ensuring my child's needs are met without fail. Mainstream schools it's self are no good. SEND unit attached 1-2-1 maybe the way forward, .... So happy to hear your outcome was a good one. God bless
