You each need to start a claim and one of you will then receive a linking code to use and this will join both claims together. You will then each have your own journals. Only one of you will need to provide details of housing and who lives with you etc.

Carers allowance will be fine because that's a separate benefit, though it's deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

When you fill out your form please make sure you report being his carer. You will not need to provide any proof of liability to pay rent because they will contact your landlord directly. You will just need to provide details of the landlord. No proof is needed when renting from social housing.

Yes, you will need to give different email address for each of you.

It's a daunting process because of fear of the unknown. If you need advice during the process, if you do it yourself please just ask and I'm sure someone will advise.

They will likely expect you both to attend your first appointment. If your husband is unable to do that he can ask for a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment due to his health conditions.

You can add a journal note about receiving PIP, once you've submitted the claim.

You don't need to tell your local Authority or ESA that you've claimed UC because they will be notified by DWP.

As I advised earlier in the thread your housing benefit and Income Related ESA will continue for 2 weeks. After that they will stop.

You can also ask for an advance payment but this will need to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced.

Your husbands ESA will continue at a lower rate of ยฃ138.20/week, paid fortnightly as it always has. That ESA will revert automatically to New style ESA and it will be deducted in full from your UC. He will receive a letter from ESA telling him that it's changing to New style but please don't panic when you see that letter because it's a standard letter. He will not need any fit notes and he will not need to attend any appointments. Commitments for that can be accepted through a telephone call.

Yes, you can ask for your rent to be paid directly to your landlord, for this put a message on your journal to ask them. Your landlord can also make a request for this too.

Your UC payment date will be 13th of every month, unless that falls on a weekend or bank holiday and then you'll receive your money on the last working day before.

For carers allowance, although first payment isn't starting until 2nd December the amount will still be deducted in full from your UC, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Did you ask for carers allowance to be paid weekly or 4 weekly?

It's probably feeling very scary at the moment but once everything is verified it will become much easier.

Did you put a message on your husbands journal to say he's in the Support Group?

Housing benefit stops after 2 weeks because you've now claimed UC. You can't reclaim housing benefit. Your rent will be paid in with your UC payments, known as housing element. I did advise this earlier in the thread and I did a calculation for you.

When you receive your first payment on 13th December, this will be the money they owe you from 7th Nov to 6th Dec.

UC is one payment made up of many different elements.

Aww it's no problem at all, you're very welcome. It's confusing for many people but it will get easier as time goes on. I'm sure financially it will be much better for you too.

Not every claim qualifies for Traditional Protection. TP only applies if your UC award is lower than legacy benefit payment amount.

I believe poppy did a calculation that showed you were quite a bit better off on UC.
