How long generally for decision on Attendance Allowance?

Hello I’m new to this. wondering if you could help,

I have put a claim in for attendance allowance it’s just eight weeks I have received a letter from D.W P . Saying they are sorry but not come to a decision yet ! 

Not to worry I will not loose any money and will be in touch soon .

    Anything up to 12 weeks.

    My own claim for Attendance Allowance at the beginning of 2022 only took 4 weeks.  But it appears that claims are now taking longer.

    Difficult! 
    I worry about everything and suffer with anxiety, this is making it worse.

    @Sunflower1954 Sorry to hear that you have anxiety; I can totally understand how waiting for a decision would exacerbate this but do try to take your mind off it and distract yourself when you feel those thoughts creeping in. You have done everything you can for now, and we're here to help if you need us in the future.

    Is your anxiety something that you receive help with from your GP or do you feel okay managing it independently?

    Many people find waiting for benefit decisions worsens their anxiety, so you're certainly not alone @Sunflower1954. Are you receiving any support to help you manage your anxiety?

    When I claimed Attendance Allowance I found the whole process was much easier than my husband's ESA and PIP claims.  He always ended up at tribunal with those as well as the face to face assessments of course. 

    However it is very unusual to have an assessment for Attendance Allowance so I found that was one less thing to worry about.

    @Sunflower1954 It sounds positive that you are receiving treatment. How are you finding receiving treatment at the moment?

    My husband has kidney failure he is 80 yrs old I have applied foe attendance allowance I'm 78 and need someone to come and help me with him I have explained this when filling in the form that was a month ago why does it take so long when you need help sooner.

    Unfortunately most DWP departments are overworked and understaffed.

    Have you requested a care needs assessment from local authority?

    There will likely be a wait for this too so better to start off the process as soon as possible.

    Hi @paddington, typically this can take up to 12 weeks but sometimes longer. Hopefully one of our members who has applied recently can share their experience with timescales. I hope you hear back soon and it's good news 😊
