What does this mean?
pip emailed me back saying this: “Thank you for your email, I can see that today we have received a new case for you from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is currently going through our initial review process and is waiting to be allocated to a HP to determine what type of assessment you will be given. Unfortunately, I can’t give you a time frame for this, if we need any information, we will get in touch with you. If you want any more information on the appointee process, please contact Department for Work and Pensions ”

so it wont get backdated from a year ago? And I have to start all over again? Would I be able to call them up and explain why I missed the assessment

As it's a new claim it won't be backdated to a year ago.

I agree with Kimmy here @nadekrkr. I would discuss with your appointee about getting professional advice and support with your complaint about the DWP, and they can also support your PIP claim as well.
