Help re Direct payments
I care for my wife who is disabled and we receive Direct Payments for her care package. Recently she's had some terrible bouts of wrenching vomiting and incontinence and we have spent some of this money on cleaning and supplies. We now realise this is strictly outside of the wording of the Direct Payments agreement.
Next week we have a review of UC...Will this be flagged ? Also can our UC and Lcwra be stopped becuase of this?
I plan to write to the Direct Payment people and say what happened but for now we are worried about next week.
Many Thanks Tom and Karolina

Direct Payments have no effect on Universal Credit.

Hello Tom and Karolina. I am very interested to read that you receive Direct Payments. My wife cares for me (I have MS) but the local authority won't allow me to have DP's. She has to be employed by a Care Agency who pay her - obviously they receive more money than the amount she is paid. We are in Shropshire. Any advice as to how we can change this so I can have DP's please? Regards Sean

Hi Sean..The way we got it is to approach it by contacting and applying to the Council. They have a duty of care to you for care so we applied to Social Services for a care plan assessment and Direct payment...I think all councils have to respond. Hope tgat helps...don't be put off...contact Social Services and insist.. Duty if Care...Care package and Direct Payments.

We get money to employ a carer 1 hour a day as respite for me..that's 540 a month...plus the carer gets allocated 2 weeks off for a carer 24 hours a day that's about 5k

Hi @tomwalker, sorry to hear your wife has been struggling recently.
As Kimmy mentioned, this shouldn't affect your Universal Credit. If they ask, just explain what's happened and it should all be straight forward.
I hope your review goes through quickly and your wife is feeling as comfortable as possible.
