Is PIP still being back dated ?

Yet more useless advice from the job centre. According to them PIP isn't backdated anymore. According to them they sent me a letter 5 weeks ago, that must have been back dated to. Still haven't got that either.

Were you on DLA? If so, it's paid from 4 weeks after a decision is made. You're given a final DLA run on of 4 weeks.

If not, you're paid from the date you phoned up.

Final DLA run on? what the hell I'm more confused now than when I started. Thanks for that

Sorry! You get a 4 week run on of DLA before they start your PIP payments.

SeanRyan, it depends what you are asking. You can't backdate PIP to a date before you claim, but if you are being transferred from DLA to PIP, that's what Nystagmite is talking about.

In other words there shouldn't be a gap in your money, if you were on DLA and then you claim PIP within the time limit and you are successful.

    Does that answer your question?

Yes. If you were on DLA, your money will be stopped.

    SeanRyan,

If you don't claim within the time limit then there may be a gap. Your DLA will stop as Nystagmite says  - they usually do this from the payment day after the deadline. They start by suspending your DLA and you do get a letter after the deadline giving you the chance to claim within 28 days, and if you do that, your DLA can be reinstated. If you don't claim within the 28 days, DLA doesn't get reinstated.

If you are successful with PIP but you claimed after the deadline, and you didn't get your claim in within the 28 days you get after that, then it can't be backdated. However, if you get an award, it will be paid going back to the date you claimed it, however long it takes them to assess you and make the decision.

Will Thankyou for the advice I have left it for too long I cannot go through it all again, I find it difficult to even look at the form. Part of my mental state I suppose the last two times I had a friend with me and this time I am alone and dont even want to look at it. I can deal with my MS but not all the **** from the DWP. they had me down for five years as having depression no mention of my MS and have been sending me here and there. I have had enough

Don't let the DWP grind you down, @SeanRyan.  That's what the jokers want.

@SeanRyan. I know it is difficult, Sean, and I know when you have no support it is even more difficult I DO, honestly, but like Matilda says you must not let them grind you down. Try to alter your mindset, pretend to yourself that filling in the form is just a job you need to get out of the way, that's what I do. I kid myself :-). That way if you do your part, and send things in on time then you are giving them nothing to go back at you if you need to complain later on. Get some help. CAB, SCOPE, your GP, your MP, Specialist Nurse, get everyone you can think of to back you up. You can do this Sean :-) We are all here routing for you.

    @SeanRyan

Phone Scope Helpline as there might be another advice organisation in your area.

Also, Disability Rights website is very helpful.

Advice! they send me emails about wheelchair ballroom dancing and seated yoga thats the only advice I get. I live in south east London everything is online there is nowhere to sit down with someone and fill out the form.

@SeanRyan I am sorry you are going through this Sean. Things always seem worse when you are in pain. I hope you can manage a good nights sleep and feel stronger in the morning. I think you can chat live online to CAB during the day. I have not used it so cannot say how good or otherwise it is, but might be worth a shot? Perhaps a benefits adviser from Scope could help you with the form? maybe not face to face but perhaps go through it either online or on the 'phone. Let us know how you get on Sean try to stay calm if you can :-)

Re CAB online chat, unless things have changed, this no longer works.  I tried to use CAB online chat several months ago and received no response at all.
