Got a PIP letter - they're extending my award by one year - but only b/c of review backlog

my PIP Award would have ended in July.  But the review form I sent back in December has still not been processed, so they've extended to July 2024 to give them time to process my form.

The letter says that if they've still not processed my review form by July 2024 they "could" extend it again.  But surely they'd have processed it by July 2024 given I sent it in December 2022?

It's time frames I guess.  How long is a piece of string.  It happens when it happens sort of thing

My review was for May last year, I hadn't heard anything by November after returning the form, so rang up and was told it was on the system as extended until April '23

The decision maker rang me on the evening before New Years Eve to finish the review

Telling you they've extended it is their way of letting you not to worry; payments will continue until your review is complete

We've had members waiting 18 months. Nothing more you can do but wait.

If mine takes 18 months I would hope that they would extend my PIP again then because even this 12 month extension would have run out by then.

It sounds like yours took 7 to 8 months to get processed then?   Did you have an assessment or just the call from the decision maker?

Your award will continue until a decision is made on the review.

In that case there's nothing much to worry about.  The letter doesn't actually say that.

    Around that yep

I had a call from the DM to clarify a few things. The reason he stated was so that I didn't have to go through the stress of an assessment if he could make a decision there and then  Eg, using aids to dress/ bath etc

He went off my previous reports from GP, Consultants, Psychologist, Psychiatrist and repeat prescriptions list  Eg.  3 painkillers ... 3 anti-depression/ anti anxiety which I've been on for years since my PTSD kicked my backside ... just things which backed up my declarations on the review form

As Poppy' says, don't worry your award and payments will continue for as long as you are waiting

    Good luck

Thanks for our reply.  So were your reports from the GP, Psychologist etc sent in with your PIP review form, or were these reports that you'd sent in with a previous claim?

I sent my PIP review form back with psychiatrist assessment report, updates about my condition from another psychiatrist, printout of repeat prescription meds (antipsychotic etc), Care Plan from Social Services showing that I have a daily Carer visiting to supervise Daily Care needs, and then a letter from a neighbour who drops in every day to assist me with things.

That is down to the Decision Maker's discretion when it is a review. Some get backdated, others don't.
