Hi there. My son has just had LCWRA award 21st August. His first fit note dated 11th April. No gaps. He's paid 18th of month. His he entitled to any back pay. Thank you.

Was the 11th April the date he actually provided the first fit note? It's the date you provide it that counts and not the date on it. Please ask him to check his journal.

Hi Poppy. Yes 11th April was the day he provided the fit note. It was dated from the 10th April.

Thank you. HIs waiting period will be.. April/May, May/June, June/July… LCWRA starts from assessment period 12th July to 11th August and first payment will be 18th August. Therefore they owe him for this months LCWRA element.

Money owed will be paid separately to his usual monthly money and often takes quite a few weeks to pay it.

Once they recalculate his statement he will receive a letter on his journal telling him how much is owed and it will be paid into his bank.

If him or his partner were receiving earnings since he provided his first fit note and he didn't previously have the work allowance he will be owed some money from that.

Hi, not sure if anyone will see this on here now, but today I was notified on my journal I have LCWRA, I provided a sick note in September, this month, and I was told today that I have LCWRA, honestly I am not sure how it actually all works, it says on the letter what was posted on my journal I may be entitled to extra money? I'm due a UC payment on the 7th November, would that be too early to receive any extra money?

That decision was made extremely quick. There's a full 3 month assessment period waiting time starting from when you provided your first fit note. The extra money is then paid from the 4th month, with first payment being the end of that month.

What date exactly did you provide your first fit note?

Based on the information you gave the extra money will not be paid from November.

Thank you for getting back to me!

Yes I was also surprised with how quick it was! I had the assessment on the 8th of this month& received the letter on my journal today!

My first fit note was provided on 5th of September, (would of been sooner but at the time I was a TA in a school so was on summer holidays before hand)

From my attempt at calculations, it would be around January time?

No problem. If that was the same date you reported your health condition then your waiting period will be Oct, Nov, Dec.. LCWRA starts from 1st Jan to 31st Jan and first payment will be 7th Feb 2025. No LCWRA element is owed.

If you or a partner were receiving earnings since you provided your first fit note and you didn't have the work allowance, you will be owed some money from that.

Does your UC include Transitional Protection? (TP) If it does then that will erode with the additional LCWRA element so you may not be any better off but it will depend on your TP amount.

Im unsure on transitional protection? I have never heard of it.

No earnings was received since the fit note, I am hoping to get back to work around December/ January if possible after surgery.

Transitional Protection is only possible if you migrated from other benefits to UC and your UC entitlement was less than the previous benefits. If you were receiving that then it would tell you on your statement.

When you return to work you must report the changes by reporting a change of circumstances and then click work and earnings.

You will have the work allowance, which means that some of the earnings you receive will be ignored before deductions apply. If you claim for help with the rent it will be £404/month, if you don't it will be £673/month. For everyone £1 of earnings over those amounts your UC reduces by 55p.

Ah ok, no I wasn't on any other benefits before UC.

My wife and I recently moved from Income support to UC .My wife submitted a fit note on 5th August 2024 which lasts to February 2025. She has recently completed a work capability assessment on 12th November 2024 and has been awarded LCWRA. I'm her main carer and don't get any LCWRA element myself. We currently get a transition protection of £347.36.

Will the LCWRA be backdated to 5th August 2024 when the fit note was submitted and if so how much would we be looking at getting. On CAB it say the LCWRA element is £416.19.

There's a full 3 month assessment period waiting time for the extra money. It's then paid from the 4th month after she provided her first fit note and it's then paid at the end of that 4th month. It's not paid at all during the waiting period.

Without knowing what date you usually receive your money each month the first payment will be either December or January.

However, because your UC also includes Transitional Protection (TP) of £347.36, this will erode completely by the additional LCWRA element and you will not be better off by the full £416.19/month. You will only be better off by the difference between TP and the LCWRA element, which is £68.83/month.

We get UC on 11th each month.

The waiting period will be Aug to Nov.. LCWRA starts from assessment period 5th Nov to 4th Dec and first payment would be 11th December. Although you will only be £68.83/month better off because of the eroded Transitional Protection.
