Pip awarded
hi all,
So at the age of 35 I was diagnosed autistic, I struggled throughout my whole life, going from job to job with severe depression, in a 10 year abusive relationship which ended up me being diagnosed with ptsd. I suffered so much for so long, I decided enough was enough. I had no idea about the benefit system after working all my life I had no idea of entitlement. My psychiatrist advised me to make a claim for PIP.
My mum was turned down for this when she tried to claim with incurable cancer, I thought no chance I’d get that then!
So I left it. Years went by and I thought what have I got to lose?
so I was honest, blunt (thanks autism) and very honest and raw.
In September I completed my assessment
November I had an unexpected phone call to ask some questions (took ten minutes) was advised it was a paper based assessment
awarded 3 weeks later full enhanced rate for 5 years.
I was so put off by the negativity people gave pip and the assessment side of it, I know people are let down daily by the system and I am not one to gloat but I want to share my positive experience in hope it may help others out there.
I was treated with nothing but kindness by everyone I spoke to.

sorry I didn’t mean I completed my assessment in September/ I mean I completed my form online.

I really do appreciate when people share their positive stories @Lolamae93, so thank you for being open about yours. It helps to add balance when we see so many negative ones.

Wish they would do the PIP forms online where I live as I am rubbish at filling out forms that are really long.
I make loads of mistakes and the form ends up looking a mess of crossings out and wonky handwriting.
I also end up with a very sore left hand after so long as the PIP form is ridiculous. I remember filling in a form for PIP I think it was and my hand had got really hot and had stuck to the page I was filling in on the paper form and I had to ask my fiancé to help me to unstick my hand.

I believe they are rolling out the online applications more widely @BrianMcFaddenFan82, but even with paper forms you are able to type out your answers instead of writing them on the form if that's easier for you. Just be sure to add your full name and national insurance number to any printed sheets you use, and be clear on the sheet which questions your answers are for.
