Confusion with constant attendance allowance

my father currently receives industrial injuries benefit and attendance allowance at the higher rate as he has done for a few years, but now I see there is something called constant attendance allowance that is claimable if you are receiving industrial injuries benefit. Does anyone know about it? And how he would go about claiming that if he is already receiving regular higher rate AA

    Entitlement to this should have automatically been assessed during the medical examination for IIDB. I'm unable to find any information on whether it's possible to apply for this separately. See link.

    It can't be paid at the same time as AA and your father would only receive the award which is higher. For example, If the AA award is higher than the CAA then it would be AA he will continue to receive.

    he retired earlier with the industrial injuries benefit about 40 years ago though so perhaps Constant Attendance Allowance wasn’t about then?

    It was introduced long before then.
